Hi, my name is Brian Estwick and I'm a longtime and highly successful elementary school age classroom teacher and home private tutor for Chess. I've taught chess both in the classroom and in private homes for children in grades K-5th for 6 plus years (and counting) and I LOVE IT! The manual which I have for sale here is the product of my many very happy and productive years of experience and observation in the elementary school classroom - and with private students - about the most effective ways to teach elementary children beginning chess. This book, THE PROPER WAY TO PLAY, is written with both honesty and accuracy and the book is designed for teachers of elementary school age children who have no experience of chess themselves. I hope you enjoy the book and find it helpful and I'm always happy and open to any and all comments, positive or negative. Enjoy! Brian Estwick
My own personal style, technique and manner of teaching chess involves strong student interaction and high amounts of interactive fun as an essential part of the process of experiencing the learning the World's Greatest Game. In the classroom I actively use a chess demonstration board (inexpensively purchased online) and directly involve the young students in the process of learning chess and beginning to work with the pieces, always allowing them to have fun with the process. I continually emphasize to my young students that one learns much more from losing a chess game than in winning it. I consistently support helping my students find and then confidently utilize - in both their chess and in their lives - their own unique and personal creativity, which is an important key to living a long, successful and productive life. The chess manual that I offer for sale here, my book 'THE PROPER WAY TO PLAY', is the clearest, most effective structural process guide for anyone who's looking to start a chess club or class teaching program for elementary school age children. A final reminder: ALWAYS HAVE FUN!
