I have been teaching since 2010. The first 5 years of my teaching career were in Opelika, Alabama where I taught 10th on-level and honors, public speaking (9-12), and yearbook (10-12). I moved to Georgia to teach in Alpharetta in 2015 where I teach 9th honors, 10th honors, and yearbook. I currently serve on several instructional technology and personalized learning teams in my school and district. I am especially interested in how to best utilize the technology students are engrossed with to enhance their academic experiences.
I believe that the best learning occurs in a student-centered classroom. 21st century students' needs are different than any previous generation of scholars. To succeed in a world dominated by technology and innovation, students need to be exposed to the hands-on instruction necessary to train them to think critically and to succeed outside of high school. For this reason I believe that classroom instruction should be based on students' needs instead of teacher convenience or comfort. An engaged classroom with this ideology in mind focuses on student-driven questioning, research, and discussion and is founded on mutual respect between teacher and fellow students.
