I have taught 7th grade science the vast majority of my 14 years in the classroom, using both the old standards and rolling out NGSS. I also ran a chapter of our MESA club for 9 years. In addition to that I have taught 6th grade science (old standards and NGSS version) as well as 6th, 7th, 8th grade math (pre-Common Core). For the last four years I have taught 6th and 7th grade STEM using NGSS standards along with early implementers. We have integrated 2 PLTW sections into each grade level so engineering integration is integrated into every unit.
My passion definitely lies in teaching the science, but the new NGSS standards, while challenging, have been extremely fun to implement. I love the challenge of adding in engineering, integration, and interdisciplinary pieces. I prefer group projects of up to three students to create a product, and then some form of presentation, gallery walk, or sharing of these products. I usually end these projects with a competition.

My childhood included wonderful years growing up on Catalina Island off the coast of Los Angeles. I lived and breathed earth, life, and environmental science. It was a passion of mine before I knew it was something people did for a living. I am the oldest of 7 and the oldest in my generation in a very small town so teaching came natural for me.
