TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I started my teaching career in a kindergarten classroom in Nashville, TN. I worked as a teacher assistant for a charter school while apart from the alternative teaching program called The New Teacher Project. After a year of teaching in Nashville, I moved back home to St. Louis, MO and was a lead kindergarten teacher. I loved teaching kindergarten but wanted to get experience in teaching upper elementary so I taught 4th grade for the 17-18 school year. I will be teaching 4th grade again this year. I have a bachelors degree in music, so in my classroom, there are a lot of chants, cheers, and dances happening to help students retain and enjoy the content they are learning. My specialty is helping students make connections with what they learn in school to what is happening in the real world. Relevant and relatable content keeps students engaged and I noticed that a lot of the curriculum that I was given did not have characters with similar likes and interests as my students and did not relate to their lives. So I begin creating material that uses song lyrics and movies that students like to help them see how they can use what they learn in school.
