TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Sept. 2007 - present M.E.A.D. High School: Teacher, Advisor, Webmaster Teaches wide range of courses including Science, History, Art, English, and Math. Washington State Highly Qualified Teacher designation in the areas of Science, Art, History, and Math. CTE certified in four areas. Designs and teaches experiential, hands-on curriculum in an informal, choice-based learning environment, including workshops, day field trips, and annual week-long experiential science trips to Mt. Rainier and Port Townsend Marine Science Center. Mentors and motivates at-risk, gifted, and/or traumatized youth. Builds individualized learning plans tailored to each student. Links students with learning opportunities and social services in the community. Sept. 2005 - Aug. 2006 Spokane Public Schools: English Teacher Taught Honors Sophomore English, Jr. College Prep English, and Sophomore English.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I teach in an experiential, hands-on school with an informal, choice-based learning environment. We often do workshops, day field trips, and also organize annual week-long experiential science trips to Mt. Rainier and Port Townsend Marine Science Center.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Excellence in Secondary Education Award, Gonzaga University School of Education, 2005. International teaching volunteer, Program for International Education and Relief, 2002. Taught various subjects at City of Hope, an orphanage and community school for girls in Makeni, Zambia.

Thesis written upon the role of experiential education in the self-actualization of at-risk youth. Thesis available upon request.
