I recently retired from the teaching profession after years of experience that spanned teaching students from grades K-8. I've taught self-contained classrooms as well as content specific classrooms. My experience also includes being a gifted and talented intervention specialist. Currently, I am the gifted coordinator of services for the district of Reading in Cincinnati, Ohio.
I ascribe to a facilitator teaching style. I believe it is important to create peer learning groups in a classroom so children can learn from each other. The communication between the teacher and the student is also very important. Through a teacher's guidance, I believe students should be encouraged able to work independently and under their own initiative. Student self reflection and evaluation is an essential element of the learning process.
