TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I received my doctorate in Special Education from the University of Virginia in 2000. I have more than 23 years of teaching experience in the public and private school systems of Georgia and 5 years of private practice experience. My areas of expertise include treating children with Autism using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and FloorTime approaches. I am also trained in using Habit Reversal Training (HRT) commonly used in the treatment of individuals with Tourette Syndrome and Trichotillomania. I am highly skilled in the use of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) to analyze patterns of behavior that will optimally lead to the development of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIP) that are effective in reducing or eliminating problem behaviors at home and at school.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My philosophy is that do disability exists in isolation. Therefore, the treatment of the entire child, including academic, emotional, and behavioral issues, is critical. My approach is multidisciplinary, meaning that on our team of highly trained professionals, I emphasize the importance of communication and collaboration. Finally, the family is an integral part the team. We involve the family and extended family unit to a great degree so that skills will generalize to the home and school setting.
