TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I taught public school both as a substitute teacher (one semester) and as a classroom teacher for more than 5 years in K-3rd grades. Then, after having children, I have homeschooled for preschool/pre-k, and now I also teach pre-k at a private preschool in San Antonio. I have experience teaching ESL/ELL students, Title 1, and profoundly gifted.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe that children of all ages learn best through hands-on/play-based experiences, and love to incorporate art and science into all areas of academics.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

The greatest honor I could ever receive is having one of my students or my own children have that "light bulb" moment because of something I've been able to teach them. Seeing them finally grasp a concept is such a fulfilling feeling, and knowing that I am helping to shape their future is just such an honor. It's part of what keeps me going every single day! (That, and lots of coffee!) Knowing that my students love me and are excited to see me every day is so heartwarming, and I truly do love teaching - even when the days get long!

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I began my education in a private school for Prek-1st grade, attended public school 2nd-12th grade, and after graduation attended a state regional university - Southeastern Oklahoma State. While teaching, I also completed my Master's Degree in Education Administration, Curriculum, and Supervision (with emphasis in assessment and general education data analysis) at the University of Oklahoma-Tulsa.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am mom to three beautiful children, two of whom are old enough to love learning and are very intensely interested in consuming knowledge as quickly as possible. (The baby will no doubt follow the same path...) I love teaching them and watching them learn through play. We live on land in the country, and I enjoy watching my children learn from their time spent exploring in nature as well as to see them learn at the dining room table. They love to pour over books both fiction and non-fiction. The oldest attends a public charter school, and the middle is in preschool at the private preschool where I teach. I do a lot of "after schooling" at home with both of them.
