I currently work in a quasi-administrative role in the central office of my school district. My focus in this role is on language development, specifically English language acquisition. I have tutored elementary students, primarily in math and reading. I have tutored middle school algebra and high school mathematics (Algebra, Algebra II, Geometry, Calculus). I have tutored adults in mathematics, mostly on placement exams for algebra coursework. I have also earned a copyediting certification in order to professionally edit formal essays, research papers, resumes, and curriculum. I have taught formally in kindergarten, 2nd, 3rd and 4th grade classrooms. I have also taught reading classes for grades kindergarten-5th. As a K-5 instructional coach, I spent most of my time in 1st grade and self-contained classrooms.
I enjoy project-based learning. I want to facilitate learning rather than lecture my students on what I know or what they can read in a textbook. I enjoy a noisy active classroom with lots of movement. I love when my students take initiative, or are inspired to go beyond my expectations, due to their enthusiasm and new learning. I consider myself innovative and willing to try new methods to help my students become lifelong learners.
