TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Ms. Smithen provides training and curriculum development to school districts, church leaders and educational publishing companies such that they may infuse youth culture in educational materials. Bathsheba has spent time training leaders within Washington, D.C., Nebraska, Texas, Virginia, and New York. As a curriculum developer and writer, Ms. Smithen has made contributions to PEARSON, US, Urban Learning and Leadership Center, GEAR UP, REAL Women, Kids and Culture Camp and others. Past Performances Through the years, Bathsheba Smithen has established credibility with educational publishing companies, schools, youth development organizations, and churches. 1. PEARSON EDUCATION, U.S- Pearson Education was working to seamlessly transition students between two Pearson products and subcontracted out Bathsheba to compare the two Pearson products for overlap of content and for applicability of working with highly at-risk adult learners. They have since moved forward with the product and continue to work with Bathsheba for the development of course framework and content. 2. Urban Learning and Leadership Center- Urban Learning and Leadership Center offers personalized school improvement services to schools and districts. Bathsheba Smithen, subcontracted out by ULLC, created and developed course content and the curriculum framework for middle and high school materials provided to school districts. 3. KIDS & CULTURE CAMP- Bathsheba was subcontracted out to create and develop course content and the curriculum framework for three of the four countries covered by the organization for students ages 5-12 for the summer of 2017. 4. Community College Preparatory Academy- While working for the school in 2015, Bathsheba developed, designed, and implemented GED curricula, that increased the school’s GED passing rate from 0% to 94%. She is also responsible for developing Administrative-Technical and GED Career Pathways, Reading Language Arts roadmaps, and pacing charts. 5. REAL Women- Real Women is an organization that creates safe spaces for women to do real work on themselves. As the organization sought to expand, the CEO & Founder, Dr. Trenace Richardson, acquired Bathsheba’s services for the development of facilitator training materials, curriculum design, and the development of curriculum standards. Bathsheba Smithen also served as the Editor of REAL Women’s first book entitled, REAL Women On the Journey: A Traveler’s Guide to Everyday Life. 6. The SEED Foundation- In 2012, The SEED Foundation was on a mission to expand and contracted out Bathsheba to conduct research on best practices in literacy, cultural and performing arts programs, and to assist in the development of content for 10 SEED Schools. 7. SEED Public Charter School- In 2011, Ms. Smithen started a literacy program that would connect Student Life to Academic Life for students living within the boarding school model. Through competitions, group sessions, and a data tracking system, the literacy program increased the percentage of higher-level 8th-grade readers from 18.8% to 70%.
