I've been teaching 11 years at Maple Hill High School in Schodack New York. I've taught 9-12 English classes. I have taught a special education 9/10 class for 5 years now, and just had my first cohort graduate from high school with Regents diplomas. I also just had my first 100% passing rate on the Common Core English Regents in June of 2017!
I inform my teaching by getting to know my students- especially when teaching special education classes. I tailor the curriculum to them. When it comes to Regents classes, my formula has worked well. I use a mix of direct test prep and item analysis with the students, along with exposing them to texts that are of the caliber they will see on the Regents. It is also one of the tenets of my class that they learn more about the world and how to think for themselves- not to just accept things at face value, but to really discover their own opinions on matters.
Yet to be added
I received my Bachelor's of Arts in English Education from Siena College in Loudonville, New York in May 2007. I earned my Master's of Science in General Education Studies is from SUNY Albany in 2012.
I've given multiple presentations at local conferences in Albany, NY about my work with podcasts as a text. I'm innovative and think creatively and outside the box, yet still adhere to state standards and consider myself an expert on the Common Core New York State English Regents Exam.
