I have spent nine years teaching: the beginning years in the secondary system, teaching English and Art; the latter years within the elementary panel, focusing on Special Education and Intermediate grades. I am currently teaching Grade 6/7 and have been developing resources for my classroom of diverse learners.
Because my students range from Developmentally Delayed to Gifted, I use a varied approach. More often than not I use a visual approach, paired with hands on, and chunked-learning. Many of my students are on a modified program, but I feel they are just as much part of my class than any other student, so I keep them in class and modify my lessons for an inclusive classroom. They still benefit from all of the lessons, and my higher-order thinkers are still challenged.
Does receiving wonderful praise from parents and students count? I feel it does.
I have a combined major in English and Fine Art. While teaching in my school board, I also obtained a Specialist in Special Education, as well as within Inclusive Classroom.
I am the mother of two wonderful, busy children - both under 5. My husband, who is also a teacher, makes some of the graphics that I use in my ideas for this site. Together, we aim to make education fun and relevant to students, while challenging ourselves to be excellent educators.
