I have over 15 years experience in grades pre-K through 3rd grade. My passion is teaching literacy as I have continued to shape and refine my craft in the areas of reading, writing and grammar. I aim to get each and every student to reach deep within themselves to find their inner reader and writer. I set high expectations and find that my students rise to the challenge given opportunities that provide rigor and differentiation to meet various needs. I teach using the workshop model in both reading and writing and have been doing so for over 10 years. After using the workshop model, I cannot imagine teaching any other way. The workshop model allows me into the hearts and souls of my students on both a personal and academic level.
One of my favorite quotes is "Teachers who love teaching create students who love learning." I find that my students succeed most when I am passionate about what I teach. If we do not model passion and enthusiasm with regard to learning, how can we expect our students to embrace learning as engaged and enthusiastic lifelong learners? I try to create an atmosphere guided by structure, energy, and a love for learning, as I learn alongside each and every student.
