In my non-AP classes, I use the workshop model and let my students choose their own research questions to investigate, focusing on the Historical Process more than content. In my AP World History classes, I use powerpoints and a multitude of discussion strategies.
I have my National Board of Professional Teaching Standards Certificate in Adolescent/Young Adult Social Studies.
Major in English and Minor in History from Willamette University. Master in Teaching from the University of Washington. I have also attended a week-long "The Gilded Age in New York" GIlder Lehrman seminar, a week-long Foundation for Teaching Economics institute, five AP Institutes, and a month-long National Endowment for the Humanities seminar called "Dvorak's Search for the American Sound."
I am also on the board of the Washington State Council for the Social Studies, as well as the Social Studies department chair at Highline High School in Burien, WA.
