I have over 25 years of elementary teaching experience, all at the same school in rural northern California. For most of those years, I was a classroom teacher in grades 1, 2, and 3--and one memorable year, I taught a K-1-2 combo! I've also been a curriculum coach for reading and math, and a Title 1 intervention teacher, working with K-5 students who struggle with reading and math.
My goal has always been to make learning hands-on and engaging. I love using games whenever possible; when children are playing a game, they are relaxed and having fun--the perfect environment for learning!
I served on the board of the California Reading Association (an affiliate of the International Literacy Association) for several years, and had the honor of serving as its president for two years. My Shining Teacher Moment was when a student who struggled with reading gave me a note saying, "Thank you, Mrs. Hoff. You have made me LOVE reading!" I hope Andrea is still a reader!
I have a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies (a multi-disciplinary major) and a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential for Grades K-6, with special certification to provide instruction in English Language Development (ELD) and Specially Designed Academic Instruction in English (SDAIE).
I've been married for over 40 years, and am the proud mother of two wonderful, caring, generous, intelligent, talented, and witty children (much like my amazing husband). My daughter is a library administrator (married to an architect), my son is an engineer (married to a high school chemistry teacher), and my husband is a retired school administrator.
