I've been teaching for over 20 years, all at the same school in rural northern California. For most of those years, I was a classroom teacher in grades 1, 2, and 3--and one memorable year, I taught a K-1-2 combo! I've also been a curriculum coach for reading and math, and am currently a Title 1 teacher, working with K-5 students who struggle with reading and math.
My goal has always been to make learning as hands-on and engaging as possible. I love using games whenever possible; when children are playing a game, they are relaxed and having fun--the perfect environment for learning! Toward that end, I love creating materials for my students. (And finding exceptional games and other resources on TpT!)
I served on the board of the California Reading Association (an affiliate of the International Reading Association) for several years, and had the honor of serving as president for two years. My Shining Teacher Moment was when a student who had struggled with reading that year gave me a note that said, "Thank you, Mrs. Hoff. You have made me LOVE reading!"
I have a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies and a Multiple Subject Teaching Credential.
I've been married for nearly 40 years, and am the proud mother of two wonderful, caring, generous, intelligent, talented, and witty children (all of which comes from my amazing husband). My daughter is a librarian, my son is an engineer, and my husband is a retired school administrator.
