I have over 20 years experience teaching in the Santa Ana Unified School District and Newport-Mesa Unified School District. I developed curriculum through the years with focus on comprehensive programs which include fitness, skills, social-emotional aspects of physical education, lead-up sports and non-competitive activities that are Standards based. I provided inservice training for classroom teachers to teach physical education. I taught student teachers at California State University, Fullerton, how to develop their program, and teach P.E. lessons.
My style of teaching is student centered, and inclusive of all students regardless of skills or coordination. My primary goal is to instill a positive regard for physical activity and fitness as a lifelong pursuit. My program focuses on basic skills that students can use throughout their life. Skills are taught in sequence so no one is on the spot to perform a skill until it's been taught and practiced. Non-competitive, teamwork is emphasized, with instruction and opportunities for leadership and being a follower, given to all students. I want students to create and problem solve. Physical activities where students create their own solutions, or make their own calls is encouraged. All of my program activities meet and exceed the Standards for a comprehensive program of physical education.
Praise and recognition for my program at Lincoln Elementary School, Corona Del Mar, Ca., Newport Mesa Unified.
