TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Carolee Dean, Founder of Word Travel Press LLC has twenty years experience working with early childhood, preschool, elementary, middle school and high school students as a speech-language pathologist. She is a member of the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) and is a Certified Academic Language Practitioner (CALP) member of the Academic Language Therapy Association (ALTA) serving students with dyslexia and other reading related disorders. She is a past president of the Southwest Branch of the International Dyslexia Association. Her novels include: COMFORT (Houghton Mifflin) TAKE ME THERE (Simon and Schuster) FORGET ME NOT (Simon and Schuster).

MY TEACHING STYLE

Carolee Dean is an award winning author of young adult fiction. She combines her two loves (education and writing) to focus her therapy strategies on using books and stories to address a plethora of speech/language and classroom learning objectives.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

-Distinguished Service Award from the Southwest Branch of the International Dyslexia Association -Notable Book Award from the International Reading/Literacy Association for the novel, COMFORT -Her novel TAKE ME THERE was a YALSA Quick Pick for Reluctant Readers.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy (1985) from West Texas State A&M University, Master of Science in Communicative Disorders (1996) from the University of New Mexico.
