I have been teaching for 11 years in an extremely diverse district in New Jersey
I was trained in differentiated instruction and spearheaded the use of this pedagogy when my district deleveled around 9 years ago. I am an extremely progressive educator who strives to differentiate and incorporate Bloom while creating lessons to adhere to the Common Core Standards.
• Team Leader of one of seven middle school teams within building • Redesigned and authored district 6th Grade Social Studies curriculum using Wiggins and McTighe’s “Understanding by Design” Model • Spearheaded implementation of differentiated instruction adoption in classrooms upon district-wide change from leveled to heterogeneous grouping • Launched use of “History Alive!” curriculum in district • Created district-wide midterm and final assessments • Mentored four student teachers • Led grade level and district-wide middle school bi-monthly department meetings and full-day professional development workshops • Represented my school on district Strategic Planning Committee to close the achievement gap within the district • Effectively employed Smart Board technology within the classroom • Initiated the design and use of interactive websites to transform communication with students and parents • Participated in “James Madison Seminar on Teaching American History” at Princeton University funded through the US Department of Education • Elected to Tripod Committee, funded by Harvard University School of Education, to identify and implement avenues to close the achievement gap in diverse school districts • Recipient of Sister Rose Thering Holocaust Education Award • Featured in regional news media twenty nine times for pedagogy and classroom activities
I have a BS from NYU in Social Studies Education and an MA in Education Leadership from the University of Cincinnati
