Iv'e enjoyed teaching AP and Dual Credit US History since 2010 with 80% passing the AP exam and 100% passing the Texas STAAR Exam. I've also taught AP European History with over 70% passing the AP exam. I am also teaching on-level US History and will add more lessons for these kiddos.
I enjoy challenging students to look at all points of view and encourage debate and discussion of any and all topics. My classroom focuses on a lot of primary source evaluation for oral debates as well as written assignments. In addition, I incorporate skills practice for the AP tests such as DBQs, Long Essays and the new Short Answer Response (SARs). We also have a little fun by mixing in a rap battle or a creative project.
I will present at the National Council for History Educators Conference in April 2018. I was selected to attend the George Washington Teacher Institute in Summer 2017. I also received the North East Education Fund Grant in 2012.

I encourage you try one of my new Talk-Read-Talk-Write (TRTW) lessons. These are a great way to cut back on the lecture routine and add some rigor. TRTW is extremely student centered and puts learning in their hands while the teacher facilitates. Students like them and have even said that they prefer them over Socratic Circles and debates.
