I am a seasoned urban public educator with 30 years under my belt and have LOVED it! My primary teaching role has been in 1st-4th grades, with inclusion and ESL students. I also have taught kindergarten, 5th and 8th grades. In addition, I have written curriculum for my district and done professional development and teacher manual writing for a nationally recognized reading intervention program. Also, I have been a cooperating teacher for freshman and senior university student teachers.
I am NOT an "open the book, read, and answer the questions at the end of the chapter" kind of teacher. (I hope nobody is in this day!) I feel most successful when I plan for hands-on, out-of-the-box thinking, student-led projects. I enjoy teaching thematically, which is possible to do with Common Core. My students feel respected and loved when they are in my presence.
