I started teaching 1st grade in 1991 in California. I taught K,1st, and 2nd at 3 different schools for 15 years. I was also trained as a "Reading Recovery" teacher and worked as a support teacher, training other teachers. In 2006 I moved to a small rural town in Colorado and taught 3rd grade for 7 years and have recently moved to kindergarten. I am also the Title 1 coordinator at our school. I love my job!
I would consider my style to be a facilitator. I believe in assessing students and then working with the results to create differentiated instruction, which often times leads to some group or one on one instruction. The student academic levels in my classroom each year are very extreme being low to high, and therefore I feel that it is my job to do all I can to meet each individual need.
I have a few, but I'll have to locate them in the basement somewhere.
I received my BA from the University of California, Riverside in 1991 in liberal arts and math. I was certified in 1992. I was trained as a "Reading Recovery" teacher through California State University in 1994-1995.
I am married to my best friend and have 2 beautiful daughters. I live in the country on 62 acres and love it. I love the Colorado sky, so being outside is perfect. I love teaching and feel like I'm getting better every year. I love to learn.
