I have worked in the field of education for five years with experience in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades. I was born and raised in Warner Robins, GA and come from a long line of educators. My grandfather and father both served as chairmen of Houston County’s Board of Education and my mother was a teacher for 31 years. So I guess you could say teaching is "in my blood".
I have a very laid-back teaching style that is highly verbal and open-minded. I try to create an environment that promotes higher-order, out-of-the-box thinking. I operate under the assumption that every child is capable of the type of critical thinking that is usually reserved for gifted students. My classroom is very literacy-based in which reading is taught cross-curricularly. I believe that the best readers are the ones that read the most, therefore; it is my goal to evoke a love of books in all my students. I achieve this by creating novel units that are based on high quality, award-winning literature.
