I served as a Geography teacher to Oklahoma City students for eight years. The student population I worked with were overwhelmingly English Language Learners. I have also been at an Adjunct Instructor at the University of Central Oklahoma for eleven years, teaching United States History. Additionally, I have scored the AP US History exam for seven years and participated in numerous professional development workshops that focused on social studies and cross-curricular cooperation.
During my first year teaching, I quickly came to understand the textbook I had offered no help with the standards Oklahoma had adopted. I searched the web, looking for help but since the standards were new, I found little. Desperate to do my job effectively, I started creating a curriculum to teach a large number of students who were still working on learning English higher-level concepts in economics, government, population, and regional geography. Over the years, I test ed these products in class and made revisions to improve their content and clarity.
I have been honored as Teacher of the Year from my peers twice in my career.
I have a Master's degree in History from the University of Central Oklahoma.
