I have just recently graduated from the University of Kentucky with a Bachelor's of Arts in Elementary Education. Prior to graduating, I did my student teaching in a fifth grade classroom where I gained a lot of experience with the fifth grade curriculum. Following graduation, I was hired for a long-term substitute position in the first grade. This was much different from fifth grade, however I was able to learn so much about the first grade curriculum as well. During both experiences I found myself going back to TPT to find good quality lessons that were aligned with the standards of each grade level. I also created some of my own activities which may be useful to you!
I am a big believer in Model-Practice-Demonstrate. In other words, I want my students to see and understand the process of something before being asked to do it on their own. Then they will have time to practice with guidance from me or their peers, before moving on to demonstrate the idea/strategy/process independently.
