I teach high school life sciences including Biology, Honors Biology, Project Lead The Way: Biomedical Sciences (PBS and MI), Zoology, Genetics, and Environmental Science and I love it all! I also coach for 6 months of the year, so I made my lessons thorough yet compact, objective-oriented, student-friendly, and ready to go!
I believe in student-centered learning (let them do the work!) Group practice activities, modeling, and open-ended labs are my go-to's in the classroom. I want my students invested in their outcomes, gauging their own progress, and helping one another succeed. For direct instruction, I keep my notes sessions short, with follow-along graphic organizers, and many checks for understanding along the way. Then I follow up with a reinforcing group activity and independent practice.
My biology classes regularly score far above state average on the Indiana ECAs, PLTW certified in two biomedical courses, More than 90% of PLTW students scored in the "Advanced" category on ECAs, Winner of the Eli Lily Teacher Creativity Grant 2015.
Graduated from Brandeis University with a BA in Biology in 2005, MA in Comparative History in 2006, Teaching certification from Purdue University in 2011, MSED from Purdue University in 2013.
I'm having an amazing year! I hope you will too!
