I have been an elementary school teacher for 9 years, teaching 5th and 6th grades. This upcoming school year I will be teaching 4th grade. I love creating new activities and lessons to help my students succeed in the classroom while having fun!
If students aren't engaged, then they aren't learning. I plan activities and lessons to keep students engaged by making them creative, collaborative, and differentiated.
I am honored to be part of many committees in my district of which I am very proud. I am a Language Arts curriculum writer, aligning our current curriculum with the Common Core Standards. I am a Math committee member, assisting in the creation and implementation of common assessments and updated curriculum. I am part of my building's school-wide effective behavior system committee, and served as a team member on our district's elementary report card committee. Through all of these experiences, I have learned more about what it takes to help students be successful.
I received a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from York College of Pennsylvania in 2005, with a concentration in Mathematics. In 2010, I earned a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Penn State University, along with my ESL Certification. I am currently completing course work through Carlow University in a variety of teaching topics. My coursework has included classes focusing on the following topics: reading strategies, classroom management, teaching gifted and talented students, differentiated instruction, bully prevention in schools, character education, discipline with dignity, educating special needs students, strategic lesson planning, working with parents and families, the effects of poverty, and whole brain learning. I love learning new techniques and methodologies so that I can continue to bring fresh ideas into my classroom practices.
My teaching partner, Kelli, and I are currently in the process of starting a blog where we will share our practical and easy-to-implement writing system for elementary classrooms. Right now it's a major work-in-progress and not quite ready for the public. Stay tuned by Following Me. I'll be sure to share lots of information and goodies once I get the world of blogging figured out!
