I gained a First Class Honours Degree in Teaching and Learning (which is the highest University degree qualification in the UK), whilst working for 8 years at an inner-city primary school. All together I have worked with children for about 20 years and have developed my teaching style through having to think on my feet and adapt my teaching style to suit the occasion. I have been a private tutor for the past five years and love it! I am able to tailor every lesson to suit the child and create my own resources. I tutor ages 4-11 and have great success helping children pass entrance exams to fee-paying and selective schools in Chester and Wirral. I also help children who have been left behind or need to fill any gaps and have recently started tutoring adults. The children I tutor gain confidence and ability quickly and love their lessons. During my degree I took a particular interest in how we all learn differently and I try to apply this to my tutoring every day. I am constantly creating and thinking of ways to help a child to 'get it'. I have fantastic training in Phonics and literally thousands of hours of teaching reading, which has been especially useful to me working with children who really struggle to read. As a late-comer to Maths I really enjoy making sure no child is left behind with poor teaching, as I was. I actually love teaching fractions. I never stop learning, my experience grows every single day and the children benefit from that. I hope at some point to do my Masters.
I will literally do whatever it takes to help a child learn and am constantly striving to help my tutees. I am never strict, but never encounter behaviour issues. The best learning takes place in a good environment and I'm not a believer in a constant supply of worksheets. I always try to include as much creativity as possible and have taught lessons on the top of a climbing frame, in a den, a party tent and on a trampoline. It seems to work as I don't have one single space available and if I ever do get one, it's filled right away.
Very, very proud of my First Class Honours Degree as I left school with 2 O'levels and absolutely no understanding of maths WHATSOEVER!
