I have loved being a Junior/Intermediate classroom teacher for 20+ years and have taught everything from 5/6 homeroom, 4-8 French as a Second Language, and 7 English, History, Geography, and the Arts. Teaching intermediate students is my specialty, and the kids in that age group are my absolute favourites to work with. I learn as much as they do and hope that never changes.
When in the classroom, I am always looking for fun ways to connect with my students; they are, after all, the reason I do what I do! Ideally, my preference is to have my Intermediate students doing the learning and exploring, while I act as a mentor or collaborator. The more time they are actively engaged in their learning the better! My favourite creations to share with my students are big projects and novel studies, both of which can offer a lot of free choice and opportunities to be creative. I am always amazed to see the fantastic work produced by students who are really having fun in the classroom! With the right projects, and an openness to their ideas, teenagers really can enjoy learning (even if they might not always want to admit it...)!
It would be an honour just to be nominated...for something...

I've been happily teaching grade 7 English, History, Geography, and the Arts for the past 7 years and recently returned to my roots, Core French, which is always so much fun to plan for and teach. I love coffee, cats, and curling up with a good book. I am currently on a leave of absence from my Core French job and enjoying this time to focus on creating fun new ELA projects and novel studies. I have a husband and 2 teenage daughters, and am a 13-year breast cancer survivor (*knock wood*) proudly living a flat and fabulous life.
