Reading and literacy is my primary passion. But I wear so many more hats! As a reading specialist, I work with students K-5 who struggle in reading. I found that commercial intervention programs do not move students quick enough to obtain grade level performance. So I began developing materials that would fill in the gaps quickly and address all learning styles. I am also an RtI Coordinator involved in identifying, assessing, and developing interventions for students in the early grades. Struggling readers often include English Language Learners (ELLs) which ignited my desire to master better methods of instruction for the classroom teacher of ELLs. Through my work in this area, I fell into the position of ESOL Coordinator for our county. This position involves the development of professional development for our teachers, coordination of interventions for ELLs, and creation of lessons specific to the ELLs proficiency level. In the early years of my career, I was a classroom teacher in grades PK-5 with my obsession being the younger grades. If a child does not have a strong foundation in reading and math, they will falter in the upper grades. I also have a love for Christian education and home schooling.
My favorite quote posted here on this site is the inspiration for my teaching style. I strive to find the best teaching style for the students I have at the time. Learning modalities and academic needs guide the instruction that occurs in my classroom. It changes daily and sometimes hourly depending on the responses received from the instruction. I feel that ALL students have special needs, and it is up to me to meet those needs with differentiated instruction customized to the individual.

I am a child of God, wife of a proud veteran, mother of wonderful children, and daughter of a loving, aging mother. All of those roles keep me very busy and are sometimes difficult to keep in that order of priority. Striving to keep God first is often difficult when the others are constantly jockeying for a better position, but he gives me strength and focus to manage it all pretty well. I claim Phillipians 4:13 daily.
