TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I bring to the table experience raising two children (who have both completed their university undergrad training) and homeschooling them for a short time. I have taught Grade 6 in a middle school context in a pod of two for many years. I am currently substitute teaching in local middle schools from Grade 6 - 8, with a focus on Learning Support Services. I am keenly aware of the changes in the British Columbia curriculum and am working on developing units to address those changes.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I like to keep subjects interesting and relevant to the students. I have always been able to create differentiated learning for them so that all students can experience success. I will try to reflect that in my materials.
I try to update my blog whenever I publish some new material. Please check it out: Moo Moo Moo. For fun, on the Home page, you can also see some of my underwater images.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

My undergrad degree was in Geography, and I excelled at mapmaking. There is, in my opinion, a lack of blackline maps available that are beautiful. Therefore, students struggle to enjoy creating them. Maps are art, and I love making beautiful maps. They are also essential to learning about our world and are the visual key to understanding global issues. I also enjoy learning about how man and environment influence each other, which can be reflected in mapmaking.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

There are two things that I love: being in the water and exploring our world. I am a scuba diver and a breath-hold diver. Every week I make the hour long trek to the ocean to practice my underwater photography while scuba diving or to catch crab while breath-hold diving. I am also the editor and publisher of an online magazine (PNW Diver - www.pnwdiver.com) that features underwater photographers and videographers. I grew up in Brazil, lived in the mid-west United States, used to live on the Canadian prairies, and now live on the Pacific Coast. I have traveled to Portugal, England, Ireland, India, and to several provinces of Canada. I am enjoying being a grandma to my daughter's little boy.
