I have been an English teacher since 2002. Most of my experience has been in middle school, specifically grades 7 and 8. In addition to teaching students, I also mentor new teachers and work with student teachers. This has been extremely rewarding for me, and is one of the main reasons I have joined TpT.
While I borrow from all teaching styles depending on the unit or lesson, I believe in a student-centered approach where inquiry based and cooperative learning is utilized. I think of myself as more of a facilitator. I foster creativity and critical thinking. I am an advocate of differentiation. My classroom is a positive and safe place where students are encouraged to question, explore, problem solve, and learn together.

I graduated with a Bachelors in Secondary Education with a concentration in English. I hold two Masters degrees, one in Literacy and the other in Administration.
Throughout my career, I have encountered students of all skill levels. I have also taught remedial reading and writing courses. Regardless of the population, I find that all students at this grade level are very excited to learn. My goal with each unit and lesson is to create motivating activities, and to choose high interest literature and writing prompts that engage and challenge students to think critically, and to work collaboratively and creatively.
