TEACHING EXPERIENCE

My name is Kristen, and I'm the face behind Chalk & Apples! This is my 11th year teaching, and I think I have the best job in the world! I've taught 2nd & 4th, but have spent most of my teaching career in 5th grade. I am so happy to be teaching upper elementary. These kids are at such a great age, and are so much fun!

I started Chalk & Apples in the summer of 2012, right after my oldest son was born, and it has been a growing passion of mine ever since. I create things I need for my own classroom as well as classroom decorations. I love knowing that I'm making a difference in your classrooms by creating resources to help you get organized, make learning fun, and spend less of your personal time on lesson planning. My passions are pretty apparent in my shop & on my blog: getting organized, teaching vocabulary, and making math fun.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My philosophy is that school should be fun for both the students and the teacher. I love incorporating technology and hands-on activities to keep students engaged and excited about learning!

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Teaching is filled with so many wonderful moments, but there is one that stands out as the first time I felt that "yes! this is why I do this job!" feeling. It was my second year, and I was teaching 5th grade. I was heading down the stairs to go home after the last parent conference of the day.

The boy I'd had the last conference with came running up the stairs. He had the biggest smile on his face, and gave me a big hug as he said, "I've never had a good parent conference before." It simultaneously broke my heart and made me so grateful for the opportunity we all have as teachers to be the person who believes in that child no one else believed in and make a difference in their life.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY
