TEACHING EXPERIENCE

In my teaching career I have amassed a great deal of fruitful experience working with a truly diverse assortment of students. I have taught in an Extended Day Title 1 Program, a Summer School program, a Credit Restoration program, Inclusion Special Education English, an alternative night school program, a Title 1 Push-In program, college preparatory English, and Gifted and Talented English, as well as Speech and Drama, and a Multicultural Voices class, which I personally created five years ago. I feel that these distinct opportunities have allowed me to evolve as an educator proficient in working with students at quite wide-ranging levels of reading, writing, and reasoning ability by identifying their strengths and weaknesses and asserting judicious and efficient methods of enhancing their abilities and motivations. I have also collaborated in updating and revising the English department curriculum on several occasions, and have taught each grade, and I am therefore entirely comfortable teaching any grade and ability level, as well as assisting students in their studies for other teachers’ classes.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am fascinated by the written word and its potential to open us all to a better analysis and understanding of ourselves. I utilize both classic literature and modern writing, along with current news, to show students that humanity is a deep pool of possibility, but one that has always been there, connecting us all and allowing us room to be unique simultaneously. I have consistently established and implemented a goal-driven system that is fair but rigorous; students are expected to take responsibility for their education, but they are offered ample support and encouragement in doing so. As such, I am able to assist each individual student in accordance with his or her unique needs, and as a team we target and overcome the obstacles that may have placed a student in need of supplemental assistance. Within this system, I stress that students develop accountability, made all the more straightforward with effective data, and I help them to analyze their own learning process and pace.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I was awarded the Philadelphia Phillies' Teacher All-Star in 2015. I am a member of the Kappa Delta Pi, the Educational Honor Society.
