Hello, I am a former teacher in public schools. I taught for 15 years prior to joining Vocational Rehabilitation in my state. I have taught all grade levels and subject areas, and I have also worked as a Guidance Counselor. Most of my teaching career was spent working in an alternative school setting for at-risk youth. I also homeschooled my son for several years while I helped care for my father who was sick at the time, so I am very familiar with homeschool concepts and curricula.
While working at the alternative school, I learned that all children can be successful if taught to his/her unique learning style. As a result, my teaching style reflects this. I believe in using a variety of modalities to teach students. I am an avid artist, and I use creative ideas to teach students the subject matter I want them to learn. I also utilized this same concept when I began working with Vocational Rehabilitation when it comes to helping students plan for a career. Any young person can learn to work, if given the right accommodations and placed in the right type of employment.
