TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Charles has taught special education Science, Social Studies, Math and English across all grade levels in a charter school setting for three years, and he developed his differentiation and curriculum skills in a public school setting over two years (as a teacher and as an educational assistant). He specializes in differentiated Social Studies. Jessica has taught special education Science, Math and Social Studies in both high school and middle school settings, working in cross-categorical and emotional disturbance-based classrooms. She adapted grade-level Anthropology, Geology and base-10 mathematics curriculum to suit varying student needs, and specializes in differentiated Science and classroom management.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Jessica focuses on rigorous scientific questioning, note-taking strategies and hands-on laboratory activities in a demanding and thorough classroom environment. Charles focuses on higher-level critical thinking, game based learning and Socratic dialogues in a fast-paced classroom environment. Both teachers have worked to raise the traditional academic standards of special needs classrooms and to ask more of their students than they may be used to (in a fun, interesting and interactive way).

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Charles and Jessica are a husband-and-wife teaching team who share similar educational philosophies. They have both been teaching special education for years, and they've come to the realization that well-structured and interactive classrooms can lend themselves to rigorous curriculum within a special needs setting. They also have two cats, one of whom is a passive-aggressive monster. https://charlesandjessicablog.wordpress.com/
