I love first grade! I explored other grade levels in my undergraduate work at Michigan state, but ended up in a first grade classroom for my student teaching. It was fantastic! This is my 5th year teaching first grade.
The more I teach, the further I move away from teacher-centered instruction to student-guided instruction. I am amazed how much my first graders can articulate their own understanding and I am constantly on the look-out for strategies and methods to incorporate this type of learning. Math is my favorite subject to teach and the new common core practice standards have allowed more student led conversations to take place in the classroom.

Welcome to me! I live just outside of Grand Rapids, Michigan and I love being 30 minutes from Lake Michigan. I spend plenty of time at the beach during the summer. Whether I am swimming, hiking, or skiing, being outside makes me happy. Other things that make me happy...my family, my friends, my job, puppies, MSU sports, food and reading.
