Engineer turned educator who loves helping students find the patterns in chemistry. I was a chemical engineer in the paper industry for two years but always knew my heart was in the classroom. I taught high school for 8 years and am currently on year 3 in the post-secondary environment. My unusual career path has been such a blessing when it comes to that age old question of "when are we going to use this?" I love helping students see the progression of how introductory chemistry and college level chemistry build on each other to prepare them for a STEM career!
I get it. Lecture is sometimes a necessary evil. But I sure do love those days where you can unleash them on an inquiry activity and let their creative juices flow! I love a flipped classroom and often use it to help me incorporate more hands on, cooperative, inquiry activities. I love stations! They keep students moving, help teachers pack a lot of material into a class period, and save on resources.
