I taught chemistry for 17 years in a Chicago Public School High School. I used to create my own slides, paper works, lab assignments and lab preparation, science fair topics and experiment, test problems. I share some of my work with other chemistry teachers.
I placed my self in students position when I taught. I understand how difficult is chemistry for some students. So, I give students more practice and short lecture. I show slides and I copied the slides for students to cut and paste in their notebook for them to review at home. I did not ask them to write the note from the slide. It may result in misspelling or misunderstanding, especially when they don't take note completely.
I received an Honor in year of 2000 for Science Fair. My student won the "Calories in beans" in Science Fair at city level. I received 3 awards from Loyola Summer Institute for AP Chemistry, IDS at IIT, ChemVan program at University of Chicago. Most of my chemistry teacher colleagues enjoyed my collaboration in lesson plan preparation including lab.
I earned B.S in Chemistry in Indonesia and B.S in Biology at Roosevelt University in Chicago. Finally, in 1999, I earned M.A in secondary education at Roosevelt University in Chicago. During my study at Roosevelt University, I worked part time as Chemistry and Biology Professor Assistance and this work inspired me to became chemistry teacher.
