MY TEACHING STYLE

I would describe my teaching style as Standards Based that incorporates the 3 R's - Relationships, Relevance, and Rigor. I believe building relationships is the first step. Knowing your students and having a warm, trusting relationship is key. Then I create units and lessons that are standards based, relevant and connect to the real world. The learning activities are engaging, hands on, developmental, and inquiry based. Last, is the rigor. I hold high expectations for every student. I support them in achieving their goals by delivering lessons in a workshop format that scaffolds student learning from my modeling, to shared learning, to independent learning. Students are held responsible for their own learning and are constantly engaged in self reflection, goal setting, and present their learning to their parents in Student-Led Conferences.

$10, 000 Excellence in Teaching TIF National Grant Award - May 2009. Eagle County School District Outstanding Educator Award - April 2007.
