TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been an educator for over 20 years, both in California and Kentucky. Though I have taught 1st through 4th, I am currently teaching 3rd grade. I have been fortunate to be in a position as ELA Cadre Leader for my school district, which has provided me with the opportunity to dig deeper into the core standards, as well as develop curriculum units of instruction for my grade level.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My goal as a teacher is to always present concepts in different ways to make learning more accessible to all of my kiddos. Teaching with intentionality is crucial, but providing experiences that spark students' learning is just as important. Moreover, getting to really know your readers is key to meeting their needs and motivating them to grow.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Principal's Award (Windsor Creek Elementary) I have also received many special awards made from my own students' hearts and imaginations that decorate the wall above my desk. One among my favorites is a personalized thank you plaque from one of my students: If you can read this, thank a teacher. :)

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

B.A.- Sonoma State, Teaching Credential- Dominican College, 5th Year- Western KY University/ Much of what I have learned comes from the KY Reading Project (UofL), being a member of KY's ELA cadre program (networking with teachers of other districts has been priceless), and the extensive professional development provided by the district in which I'm fortunate to teach. Our HES staff rocks!

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I have been blessed to live in the beautiful state of Kentucky with my wonderful husband, our energetic son, one crazy cat, and two rambunctious dogs, so there is never a dull moment. During my spare time (if that actually exists in teachers' lives), I enjoy gardening, canning, cooking and family time.
