Having been home educated myself, I know there needs to be more out there for not only the teachers of public school but also for the home educators and private school teachers. I am now a fourth grade teacher in a public school. Previously, I was a teacher assistant for several grade levels and assisted in creating activities for those classrooms as well.
I love to actively engage students and have lessons that clearly link to their daily lives. Sometimes, I need to directly stick to a schedule so I don't forget something. I accomplish this with the Common Core standards and enjoy embellishing on them to make lessons interesting and relevant.
I'm just an ordinary person without many awards. Perhaps that is from my home educated background, but I don't think it changes what I do. :)
I went to a variety of public schools until fourth grade, at which time I began my home school adventure. When I graduated in 1999, I continued on to community college followed by earning my Bachelors in Elementary Education from East Carolina University in Greenville, NC.
A teacher and mother to six children in a blended Brady Bunch-style family, I find myself often distracted by lesson planning. I am nearly always in 'school brain' but I enjoy it. My children's ages range from 7-17, each being 2 years apart. Our family loves to take summer trips to historical sites or children's museums.
