Cheryl Miller Thurston has many years of experience teaching English and language arts, 7th grade through university, as well as writing classes for senior adults.
She believes that you must get (and keep) student's attention in order to help them learn. She is also a great believer in the power of humor in education.
Named a northern Colorado "Woman of Vision," 2012. A past winner of the Pacific Northwest Writer's Conference Children's Playwrighting Award. Finalist for the Colorado Book Award for book of poems about education, "Hide Your Ex-Lax Under the Wheaties."

Cheryl Miller Thurston is the founder of the publishing company, Cottonwood Press, which specialized in materials for English/language arts teachers for over 20 years. (She sold the company to Prufrock Press in late 2010.) She is the author of many books about writing, including UNJOURNALING, SURVIVING LAST PERIOD ON FRIDAYS AND OTHER DESPERATE SITUATIONS, and IDEAS THAT REALLY WORK! Her poems, plays, and articles have appeared in many publications, including ENGLISH JOURNAL, LEARNING, READ, and many others. Her musical plays have been produced by community theaters and school drama departments all over the country. She is the creator, writer, director for the musical comedy performing group Moonlighting Teachers, which has performed for local, state, regional, and national educational conferences for over 15 years.
