TEACHING EXPERIENCE

TEACHING EXPERIENCE My 30 years of teaching experience have been at the elementary and middle school levels, teaching in self-contained classes at 2nd, 3rd and 4th grades. At the 6th grade level, I taught in a team concept and later taught 8th grade language arts at the middle school level. In addition to my teaching, I was involved with my local and state reading organizations holding positions within those organizations and also served as a state coordinator to the International Reading Association. I taught in a district where one of our teaching strategies was cooperative learning. As a result I authored two books, Cooperative Learning for Language Arts, Grades 7-12, Book 1 and Book 2, available online at Kagan Publishing.

MY TEACHING STYLE

TEACHING STYLE A self directed, motivated educator with a commitment to student development and the learning experience, I view teaching and learning as a dynamic and interactive process integrating concepts and practical ideas that challenge, enrich and meet the diverse needs of students. My classes were planned using a structured model, outlining my goals and objectives that followed the standards, benchmarks and indicators pertaining to the unit and lessons. These lessons used cooperative learning extensively to guide and challenge students as they developed skills and understanding of the text. The writing lessons in particular at 8th grade were designed to nurture and enhance skills in narrative and expository writing.
