TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught 17 years in a large and diverse urban district in Orange County, Ca. This has included every core subject in Social Sciences at the high school level, which would encompass Civics, Economics, US History, World History, and additionally, AP US Government and Politics (elective). However, I have been teaching AP Government and US History for the longest and would say that those are the subjects I am most passionate about. I am a mentor teacher for AP US Government and Politics for others in my district and also a master teacher for local college students. I love delving into my subject matter and creating lessons out of it.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I have always believed that I need to hit on all different learning styles in order to not only help students, but to also keep things fresh. I truly do believe that interactive lectures and discussion are important, but that there also needs to be a balance with group work, simulations, research, and student-led presentations. I think these activities are at the heart of critical thinking and the common core. I teach at a school with many English language learners and therefore really try to push writing and vocabulary development as a key to their success.
