TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Elementary school is the best and I've been happy there for 13 years! I spent eight years in fourth grade, a year in third, and now I'm starting my fifth year as an Instructional Coach/Leader for my campus. As an instructional specialist for reading and writing, I try to create tools my teachers will find useful when working with real kids and real learning. I'm a past president of the El Paso Reading Council, the local branch of the International Reading Association, and I'm also a Teacher-Consultant for the West Texas Writing Project, the local site of the National Writing Project. I love to teach all contents, but my heart is in literacy!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I love to work with all content areas and develop my own units rather than use textbooks or programs. Real reading, real writing, real experiences, real conversations :)

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I was Teacher of the Year for my campus for the 2010 - 2011 school year and the 2012-2013 school year. I've presented at IRA conferences as well as a National Writing Project National Meeting.

I have three dogs and three cats (I know, I sound crazy) and I recently married my wonderful husband! My family of three younger brothers constantly shapes the work I do - it has been beautiful to see them grow and know what influences them to do what's right.
