Love that TPR! Natural Language Aquisition is the way to go!Good communication requires more than knowing the "words". Language and knowledge of culture and history develops true understanding. As important as it is to teach in the target language, teaching Spanish to students of all ages benefits from discussion. For that discussion to be meaningful, students must use their own language.

I really value my language background and how it helps me connect with students. I feel that the language and culture I learned growing up bilingual, speaking Spanish and English, living in the U.S., Spain, and Colombia helps me to bring so many authentic language experiences to the classroom. However, having not learned to read and write in Spanish until college allows me a true connection and understanding of the challenges and obstacles for students learning a second language.
