TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been teaching at the middle school level for eight years. The majority of my classroom experience comes from teaching 6th and 7th grade specifically. 7th graders have the Writing Portion of their standardized test, so much of my experience with them is directly geared toward learning to become effective writers.

MY TEACHING STYLE

In general, my teaching style is that of a cooperative classroom. Students are seated in groups in my classroom and work together to achieve success on a daily basis. I like to think of my classroom as organized chaos. It's a rarity to walk by my room and see students seated or quiet.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I have been selected, along with two of my colleagues, to present at the National Council of Teachers of English Convention in November 2013. My team has been recognized for our innovative approach at using anchor novels to incorporate the Common Core Standards and prepare our students for life beyond the middle school English classroom. We are grateful and honored to be presenting on such a prestigious platform.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I received my Bachelor's degree in English Literature and went on to persue my Master's of Secondary Education a few years later. In 2010, I received my Master's of Secondary Ed. and have been busy implementing the wealth of knowledge I learned into my own classroom! I am excited to be entering a Special Education: Interdisciplinary Reading Specialist CAGS program in Fall of 2013.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

Aside from teaching my middle school students, I also have 2 young children of my own that I enjoy playing with and reading to when at home!
