TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I've been teaching since 1989. For my first 7 years, I was a categorical and inclusion special education teacher. Since that time I have mainly taught first grade but did loop between first and second grade for a few years early on. I have training in Thinking Maps, Lucy Calkins Writing, Being a Writer, Keeping the Brain in Mind through Music and Movement, and Strategies for Teaching Struggling Learners.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I have read several books to learn more about the brain and gender differences in learning. I use many techniques in my classroom based on these books. I have the kids up and moving and have them actively engaged as much as possible. I differentiate my instruction to meet the needs of a diverse group of learners. Connecting with students has a huge impact on students' learning and achievement.
