Tina Hargaden has been using comprehension-based teaching strategies and writing things for her students to read for 16 years, and she has been writing things to help other teachers with common language teacher problems for the last four of those years.
Tina has taught lots of different subjects, mostly in middle school, but also in high school, university, and adult settings. She has taught English Language Arts, Social Studies, Reading Intervention, English to Speakers of Other Languages, Sheltered Social Studies, French, and Spanish, and she is also a big teacher nerd who loves the process of teaching and learning, which means she has had a lot of training and read a lot of books, and a lot of blogs and journals and articles and websites. And she brings all those various perspectives on literacy into her work in World Language, a field in transition as we work to bring our practices into alignment with the American Council of Teachers of Foreign (she prefers "World") Languages, or ACTFL, Core Practices and Can-Do Statements and Performance Indicators.
