TEACHING EXPERIENCE

This is my 30th year teaching, and I absolutely love it! I taught for 27 years in the public school setting, and am currently teaching in a private school.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Teaching, for me, has never been a job, but a ministry-a calling to not only impart knowledge, but to instill in each child a life-long desire to learn more, to feel empowered to task risks, and reach for their hopes and dreams. Helping children reach their fullest potential is a challenging and exhilarating task. Especially with young children, it is imperative to tailor the learning to the learner, to know each child’s strengths, weaknesses, interests, and to create classroom experiences where all can explore new concepts using music, peer discussions, cooperative learning, core standard based activities, technology, and an assortment of manipulatives for “hand’s-on learning”. The more opportunities I give my children to use all modalities in practicing a skill, the greater probability concepts will “stick”, be conserved, and applied in new learning situations. All of these approaches to learning are an integral part of my classroom.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

In addition to teaching full time, I started a music Ministry in 1999, shortly after the release of my first CD, "It's All About You". I later recorded two additional projects, "Christmas Wishes" and "In My Eyes" two years later. I wrote many of the songs on these recordings. I sing for a wide variety of audiences and events, including concerts, revivals, retreats, women's conferences, weddings, and many civic and community occasions. I frequently share my testimony at these events. Music is an integral part of every subject area in my class!
